Welcome to water thoughts: a writing space for change. Learn more about this site and the author. The about this site page has been updated, and is included below after some initial thoughts. I wish this could feel more welcoming, instead of explanatory, and I hope later posts might.
initial thoughts
How many ways can I try to write an about page, and each time realize it was more appropriate to be a post?
This is the about this site page, today. It feels appropriate to make it a post, because it has already changed, and lengthened, and in some ways, probably describes this website more briefly than what I had tried to write in a different post.
about this site.. today
This website is called water thoughts, a fluid space, a space always changing and about to change and about change. Even if it isn't perceptible to you as the reader, it will be to Cead as the writer. This is a space where efforts to write will happen, through vulnerability and labor that largely is never seen except by Cead's partner. This website is an independent publication launched in February 2025 by Cead.
Cead is a disabled nonbinary queer person, a finder of words and language, living on Lenape land, in the belly of the beast, with their partner. They are still trying to find a name, and Cead might be it, or it might not. They are a descendant of European settler-occupiers, and are committed to trying to dismantle a world founded on (and still deeply connected to) genocide, dispossession, enslavement, white supremacy and nationalism, and antiblackness and build the world that they feel we need.
Cead/Me [1]: I wish it were possible to write about the horrifying fascism, antiblackness, Islamophobia, ableism, transphobia, white nationalism, and more that is growing, but the words are still missing. I still don't have the words, so I will be doing what I can, from where I can, trying to write, to write again, or write finally.
This is a website for experiments. One experiment is writing itself, with book recommendations and reflections from reading to rebuild language post-injury and to understand the world that I couldn't understand, and it grew from there to include trying to understand things that I'd cared about for most of my adult life, as I also returned to my radical roots. Another two experiments are hosting the Read, Seed, Water, Feed reading challenge on Storygraph and trying to support it here in ways that are possible within capacity and imagination.
This page will change, as change happens within and around. [2] And when it does, that is, when about this site changes, I will probably create another post like this as a news item.
Thank you for reading.
notes
Writing first-person because third-person is really strange and more separation in this way doesn't really feel needed beyond what was started. Mostly this too will change over time.↩︎
2 hours later, after writing that sentence: In some ways I think it needed to be started third-person because Cead is even k/new to me, so I need/ed to hear it in third-person. At first it felt strange to put this in a note, and it has already changed over time, through reflection and re-arrangement, until it fits (my comfort, anxiety, turbulence) better. This is an example of one of the ways this website is "a space always changing and about to change and about change."↩︎
